2010 NEWS BULLETINS
March 1st, 2010 The following individuals were nominated and will fill the executive positions for the 2010-2011 season by acclamation: Katie Loos - Vice President
Colleen Crane - Treasurer
Heather Ling - Secretary
Jessie Campbell - House Coordinator
Kerry Gaultois - Registrar NOTE: June Montgomery will remain President completing the second year of her two year term. We are still looking for volunteers to fill some key positions on the Executive. Individuals in Executive positions are asked to attend one monthly meeting. If you are interested please contact June Montgomery. Note there are players with experience in these positions who could assist you while you learn how to do the job. The vacant positions are: Team Scheduler-responsibilities include arranging the schedules for home & away games for the Intermediate and Veteran teams. As an executive member you would also be expected to attend one monthly meeting, throughout the season. Fundraiser Co-ordinator-responsibilities include planning & organizing fundraising events for the league. Nominations Co-ordinator-responsibilities include collecting nominations for executive positions. This occurs towards the end of the season around Feb-March. Non-Executive Volunteer Positions-for people who would like to help out with our league buu cannot commit to Executive responsibilites, the following positions need to be filled. Again, contact June Montgomery if you are interested: Tournament Co-ordinator Safety Co-ordinator Team Co-ordinators (one for each Mon night team, one for Intermedialte & Apparel & Merchandise Co-ordinator Referee Co-ordinator one for Veterans) For more information regarding these positions please check out the link to the Constitution (below) or contact June Montgomery to discuss. March 15th, 2010 AGM @ NAC (Nanaimo Aquatic Centre) 7pm. This meeting will be an opportunity for anyone from the membership to voice their ideas and suggestions for the coming season. It is important to note that there will be a draw for those who attend this meeting and the winner of the draw will have their fees paid for one level of play (Monday Night, Intermediate or Veteran). April 8th, 2010 Beer & Burger Nite @ Old City Pub. This is a fundraiser for the league and your support would be wonderful! Tickets can be purchased in advance by contacting Tammi Nadeau. She is asking for people to pre-pay for their tickets to make it easier to keep track of funds and numbers. There is a chance that tickets will NOT be sold at the door....You can buy your tickets at the AGM you can email her to arrange for tickets...tammi_nadeau@hotmail.com. 2009-2010 SEASON: SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE! The Nanaimo Islanders have been playing ice hockey on Vancouver Island since 1996. We are women aged 19 and beyond who enjoy playing recreational and/or competitive hockey in a supportive team atmosphere. We are comprised of beginners, intermediates and veterans and welcome new players. There is a Monday Night House League, comprised of at least 4 teams. If you are a beginner hockey player,looking to develop your skills and want to understand how to play the game, House League will offer you the opportunity to learn to play hockey in a game setting. Players who would like ice time and have experience are also welcome to participate in this recreational ice time. Each team will have a mixture of beginners,intermediate and advanced players. Teams will have the option of playing occasional away games in Parksville, as well. COST = $300 - Monday House League OnlyThe Nanaimo Islanders Intermediate Team This level of play developed out of our Monday night recreational league in the 2008/2009 season. With a year or two under your belt, players who are in need of challenging their skills in formal game situations will enjoy this type of competition. You should have some basic skills at passing, shooting and carrying the puck. You will develop a greater understanding of positional play through competitive situations and some practices. This is our newest division and will continue to evolve to suit the needs of players looking for their first experiences in organized game situations. NOTE: this level is also open to individuals who have a higher level of hockey skill and/or experience, but are not able to commit to the more competitive schedule of the Veteran level. COST = $200 - Intermediate Team OnlyThe Nanaimo Islanders Veteran Team This team is designed for intermediate and advanced players who are committed to playing regular home and away games. Often referred to as the "Travel Team", players at this level should expect a high skill level and be prepared to travel out of town.. See link to schedule. COST = $350 - Veteran Team Only Combinations (playing two levels during the season): COST = $460 - Monday League + Intermediate COST = $610 - Monday League + Vet Team NOTICES TO ALL PLAYERS...from the Executive Sept 2009...
